Wondering what Sri Lanka and GTA have in common?
Or why after having just returned from a first time trip to Sri Lanka, I became infatuated with the country, sites and culture? Read on to find out why...
To start with for those who don't know, Sri Lanka is the shape of a tear drop, and is often referred to as the 'Tear Drop of India'
- Probably because you would cry if you went to India instead of Sri Lanka!
The diversity is amazing - within a 2-3 hour drive you can be in a city, beach paradise, or deep jungle!
Infrastructure is being worked on everywhere! Not to mention exciting news of James Packer's planned $350m investment into Sri Lanka! The next Dubai maybe...! Anyway - lots of roads and highways being built!
BUT - if you are going to drive, having prior experience playing Grand Theft Auto is desirable!
Oh and I forgot - watch out for the CRAZY buses everywhere!
Google is particularly well mapped - and you can even find your way around in offline mode - by loading your maps while in Wifi in the morning, and then relying on cell towers for your current location!
Remember though - 'highways' are not necessarily highways, and google apparently doesn't promise that the motorway it's taking you to is built yet!
The food really is amazing (and cheap!!) - can you tell my favourite...
The sheer opportunity that Sri Lanka has to grow!
So - before you go brushing up on your Sinhalese (like I did!!) - remember that just about everyone you meet on the main tracks will already speak english! Mind you - don't forget to at least learn the basics like -
And that's what I Iearned (to love) about Sri Lanka! Keep it well and truly in your travel plans, particularly in the coming years as it picks up more than ever!
You can find even more detail in my upcoming eBook - The 'Suddha's Guide To Sri Lanka!'
